  1. What should I feed my dog with IBS?


    My Cocker Spaniel, Prince, 13 years old has IBS. He will no longer eat the Hills Prescription Diet WD formula even when adding white rice and boiled chicken to it. What other dog food do you recommend?


    IBS is typically something our dogs can recover from, depending on the cause. If it’s due to a food sensitivity, simply changing diets can help (although some dogs are sensitive to so many ingredients that regular changes are needed). Many dogs experience IBS due to stress and see it fade as stress reduces. IBD, on the other hand, is a medical condition that requires veterinary care and, while aided by diet, typically requires medication. If your dog had IBS and has since recovered, a special diet may not be needed. Moving forward can be a bit of a guessing game.     Chase away the winter blues with activities and games.

    1. Teach your pet a new trick, like a spin or high-five. Start by guiding them into the behavior with an enticing treat. Then, use a marker word like “Yes!” to indicate when your pet did the action correctly.
    2. For extended entertainment, try long-lasting chews or freezing a bully stick, canned food or peanut butter in a Kong.
    3. Play scavenger hunt inside or outside by hiding treats or toys and telling your pet, “Go find it!”
    4. Try hide-and-seek with your pet. Start by telling them to wait while you hide. Then, call your pet over and offer praise or treats when you’re found.

  4. Nutrisca Dog Food Recall

    Chuck & Don's is aware that Nutrisca has initiated a voluntary pet-product recall. This recall affects Nutrisca's chicken and chickpea dry dog food due to it containing elevated levels of vitamin D. Bags affected have a Best By Date code of February 25, 2020 through September 13, 2020. We're taking steps to remove and ensure that the specific products identified in this recall is NOT available in our stores. We'll be sending out an email to those customers who have their email listed with us who may have purchased the affected Nutrisca product.
