What kind of dog food would you suggest to help eliminate loose stools and smelly gas?

Question

My three year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog has been on Canidae All Life Stages since he was 8 weeks old. He has had soft stool and bad smelling gas and we just assumed it was him. We recently adopted a 5 month old Golden Retriever. He had been eating Royal Canin but then we switched him over to the Canidae. He too now has softer stool and bad smelling gas. Is there a different product or brand that you would recommend for them? I spoke with my vet at the puppy’s check up and he suggested some lower quality brands that I am not comfortable feeding my dogs such as Purina One,Iams and Eukanuba. What can I do to help promote a more solid stool and potentially eliminate the bad smelling gas? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer

Hi Shannon!

The Canidae is definitely a good product but it may not be the right food for your dogs with the side effects you are experiencing. Have you tried the single protein options from Canidae yet? They do have just a lamb or just a chicken option that can sometimes help. Visit your local Chuck & Don’s and one of our knowledgeable team members can help you find a different food. We have plenty of options that we can show that you may feel more comfortable trying.

Thanks for the great question!
