QUESTION:

I have a cat (about 2 years old) who like to paw the floor after i give him some wet cat food; he doesn't scratch at the floor just paws at it. He'll eat some and paw the floor...he does this about 3-4 times.

ANSWER:

Hi Laurei,

You have a very unique cat from the sound of it! Pawing the ground while eating could very well be a habit he picked up as a kitten. When kittens nurse, they paw at their mothers tummy to stimulate the milk to flow. Adult cats will often continue this pawing action when they are snuggled up in their owners laps and purring. He apparently really likes his soft food and is doing his pawing action as a sign of happiness and content.
