QUESTION:

I have a 10 year old male cat (neutered) who is starting to spray at a couple of spots. This is new behavior. Any thoughts or products that may dissuade him?

ANSWER:

Hi Scott,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your cat and the marking issues you are experiencing.

Marking can be caused by many different things. Some things to consider include:

Does the cat have a urinary tract infection? Are there enough litter boxes in the home? Has the cat been receiving less attention than it is used to? Has the brand of litter changed recently?

It is also possible that the cat is seeing stray cats outside through a window and may be marking inside to claim its territory.

Some products that we carry which may help are Anti-icky Poo to completely remove existing urine and odor completely, Keep-Off a deterrent product meant to repel cats and dogs from certain areas, and Feliway diffuser a pheromone plug that is designed to reduce marking and vertical scratching.

I hope this helps to find the source of your cats behavior.
